Byebye 2012, Hello 2013

又是跨年的时候了。It's amazing how quickly time flies, and how much can change in a short period of time. Mainly work and my schedule has changed a lot this past year, and the feeling I have is that of having moved on in life. Along with this change in environment I've made many new friends whose presence in my life has left me deeply thankful to God. I hope they remain a part of my life for a long time to come.

As usual, the summary as follows:
2009 year of change
2010 year of firsts
2011 status quo
2012 year of moving on

The Aftermath

Coming back from the trip has fostered a new perspective, literally. As Yoda would have put it, "a visual person I am not". However, since meeting up with all my friends, old and new, pictures have taken on a new importance, strengthening the friendships across the globe. In today's world, such relationships are inevitable, and really, there is no better way to preserve the moment, than a picture which paints a thousand words.

Mobile blogging

Just thought to try this out with my new Android Samsung phone. Having internet access on-the-go is fantastic. But also quite distracting at times. I doubt mobile blogging will become a habit for me but this is great fun! :-)

Travel Bug

I lost this bug when I had to travel on the job a great deal some years back. To be honest it never quite bit me again the same way since then, and I haven't felt enthusiastic about boarding a plane for a long time. But ever since I booked the plane ticket I have been ridiculously excited about this trip coming up next month. I'll be traveling back to a place that holds the memory of some of the best times of my life, and whilst I'm not looking forward specifically to the plane-ride (it's long haul), I certainly am pumped up about the destination.
It has been a good 4 years since I visited this place I once called home, and every inch of me is thrilled to soon be able to re-live the sights & smells -- familiar roads, friendly faces, favorite eateries, the chilly air & blue skies. More curiously, I wonder how I would feel. Every time I went back previously it felt kinda like going home. But time and tide waits for no man, and I'm well aware that life goes on with or without me there. So would I feel right back at home, as if I never left, or would things somehow be somewhat foreign, yet familiar? I don't know. But I can't wait to find out.

Byebye 2011, Hello 2012

It took awhile for me to consolidate my thoughts for 2011, but at least I made it by the Lunar New Year (currently ongoing).

3 weddings and 3 divorces amongst some friends,
2 vacation trips abroad for my parents, (which meant 2 vacations at home for me).
Major illness for a good friend's mum, death for another friend's dad.
Some friends left to work/study, some friends came back.
And of course, Singapore held its "watershed" elections.

Lots more was going on in the lives of people around me, than anything very eventful for myself. But looking at the yin-yang balance, it is hard to decide if the result would be a nett profit or in the red.

But what has passed, is in the past. The optimist in me looks forward to enjoying my 2012. No, the earth will not be destroyed in December this year because Isaiah 45:18 and Psalm 119:90 says so. But should the world economy collapse, I just hope not to be reduced to bankruptcy.

Personally, 2009 was a year of change, 2010 was a year of firsts, 2011 was at status quo, who knows what 2012 would bring?
